This leads to resentment and jealousy from another member of the court, Bija Tun Ali, especially after Rear Admiral Megat Datuk Seri Rama marries the woman he rescued. In 2014, the collection was inscribed onto the UNESCO Memory of The World Asia-Pacific Register, a list of endangered library and archive holdings. At 35 minutes long, the film is the only musical variety short from the Cathay-Keris catalogue.

The fairy tale is about two sisters, Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih. After their father dies, Bawang Merah and her mother, Labu, have to share the house with domineering Kundor and Bawang Putih. Bawang Merah has to endure more hardship when her mother dies. She is bullied, beaten and abused in every way imaginable by Kundor and Bawang Putih. As the tale goes, her mother eventually reappears – as a fish. Bawang Merah becomes happier and this puzzles both Kundor and Bawang Putih. Her ship comes in when a Prince hears her singing in the woods and marries her. Of course, Kundor is terribly unhappy that her brat, Bawang Putih, is married to none, let alone a prince. So she devises an evil scheme to destroy Bawang Merah’s marriage and get the prince to notice Bawang Putih.

Ariffin's father too falls ill after hearing the tragedy. Marhani's younger sister, who is also a nurse, is employed to take care of Ariffin (Tengku Iskandar)’s father and young siblings Tengku Shah and Tengku Ngah. But the junior tengku-tengku are too much to handle for Marhani’s sister.

During an outing to the beach, Ali falls ill suddenly, seemingly struck by a wicked spell. Keeping watch by his bedside, his wife is at a loss as he begins to tell of a long feverish dream set in a legendary (and supernatural) time and place where an unfaithful wife suffers a terrible fate. Ali then attributes his ailment to his wife and accuses her of being unfaithful to him. In order to prove her loyalty to him, the wife blinds herself with sharp object, which miraculously results in Ali’s instant recovery. However, he now abandons his sightless wife and commits adultery with a singer-artiste Dayang. As the plan proceeds, Ali’s wife and her close friend become collateral victims and are killed in a car wreck. Their spirits return to haunt the evildoers.
