Die 27-jährige Taeko ist im Jahr 1982 eine Büroangestellte in Tokio. Obwohl ihre Familie sie zum Heiraten drängt, ist sie alleinstehend. Taeko, die schon seit ihrer Geburt in Tokio lebt, möchte die Großstadt für ein paar Tage verlassen und wegfahren, um sich ein wenig Urlaub zu gönnen. Ihre Schwester Nanako schlägt vor, dass sie die Familie ihres Ehemannes besuchen könnte, da dieser ursprünglich einer Bauernfamilie vom Land, der Präfektur Yamagata im Norden Japans, entstammt. Auf der Fahrt dorthin erlangt sie Erinnerungen an ihre Kindheit in der fünften Klasse der Grundschule wieder. Sie erinnert sich unter anderem an ihre erste Liebe.

Prompt wird Danny beauftragt, die Hobbysänger unter Vertrag zu nehmen. Dummerweise ist ihm nicht klar, dass seine neue Mission bloß ein Scherz ist. Und so quartiert sich Danny im Bed and Breakfast von Jims attraktiver Tochter Alwyn ein und heftet sich an die Gummistiefel der Fishermen. Das Werben um die 10 kornischen Fischer wird zu einem Kampf um den Respekt der Männer, die Familie, Freundschaft und die Gemeinschaft über Ruhm und Reichtum stellen. Während Danny immer tiefer in die traditionelle Lebensweise der Fischerfreunde gezogen wird, stellt sich ihm die Frage, was Erfolg im Leben wirklich bedeutet.

Der junge Karrierist Bob Roberts strebt einen Sitz im Senat an. Nach außen vertritt er Wertvorstellungen wie Nationalbewusstsein und den Erhalt der Familie. Hinter der Maskerade verbergen sich skrupelloses Eigeninteresse und eine Menge leerer Versprechungen.

Saul Swimmer filmte das Event, dessen Spontaneität in jedem Song zu hören ist, kreierte einen wichtigen Konzertfilm der späten Hippieära und dokumentierte eines der ersten Benefizkonzerte in der Geschichte der Rockmusik.

Der Film thematisiert die Migration der Zigeuner und spezieller der Roma von Indien bis nach Nordafrika und Europa. Latcho Drom ist ein Ausdruck auf Romani und bedeutet so viel wie „Gute Reise“. Der Film verzichtet vollständig auf Dialoge oder schauspielerische Darbietungen. Einzige Stilmittel sind die Musik der Roma und ihre Ausprägungen, die diese Musik in den jeweiligen Ländern erfahren hat, in denen einzelne Romastämme sesshaft geworden sind. Die Darsteller sind allesamt professionelle oder Laienmusiker.

Der von kraterähnlichen Hautausschlägen geplagte Heinz Strunk wohnt in den Achtzigern mit seiner kranken Mutter in Hamburg-Harburg. Als Saxophonist tingelt er mit der Tanzcombo "Tiffanys" durchs norddeutsche Flachland. In diesem bizarren Universum aus Korn, Klaus & Klaus und Koteletts bringt ihm Bandleader Gurki bei, fröhliche Stimmungsmusik "geil abzuliefern". Um dem Teufelskreis aus Schützenfesten und Dorfhochzeiten zu entkommen, will Heinz eine Solokarriere starten und Hitproduzent werden...

The Johnny Cash Show was an American television music variety show hosted by Johnny Cash. The Screen Gems 58-episode series ran from June 7, 1969 to March 31, 1971 on ABC; it was taped at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. The show reached No. 17 in the Nielsen ratings in 1970. Cash opened each show, and its regulars included members of his touring troupe, June Carter Cash and the Carter Family, The Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins, and The Tennessee Three, with Australian-born musical director-arranger-conductor Bill Walker. The Statler Brothers performed brief comic interludes. It featured many folk-country musicians, such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, Kris Kristofferson, Mickey Newbury, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Merle Haggard, James Taylor and Tammy Wynette. It also featured other musicians such as jazz great Louis Armstrong, who died eight months after appearing on the show.
