My grandma was my first idol, I would love to show her my studio now that she cannot criticize me.
I Can’t Get Away is a three-channel black-and-white silent video. The video depicts 4 sequences: a figure perpetuating walking away; a figure bounded to an immobile tree; a figure running away from another figure, and vice versa. The performances of stages within the grieving process, different modes and processes to grapple with loss and the sensibilities that comes with mourning impermanence.

A Playground Day is a single-channel screen-recorded video with a voiceover of a narration of a fictional playground trip with my sisters. Through the illegible 3D scans of the playground, I constructed a fragmented visual story that depicts reimagination and faded memories. The self-referential voiceover serves as an index to the process of making this video, I had let the visuals of the video take its course and simply follow along, making up unscripted stories along the way.
Exploring the diaspora and how we exist in the Western landscape, we are on this land that has a colonial agenda. At the beginning of the video, I put traditional paintings depicting the “sublime”- which come from the colonist lens, and then I added AI-generated images to re-catalog my experience living in this country. The keywords I put into the system to AI-generate images are words that are relevant to how I grew up, including pop-culture references, key landscapes from where I grew up, and critical political words- the Taiwanese flag in itself is a highly politicized word.

To index my position in popular culture, existing in scenes of Taiwanese indie youth and migrating to New York and we all exist under the umbrella of confederacy/ white supremacy/ Eurocentricism/ and patriarchy. FAREWELL asks questions about internet labor and surveillance, comments on Eastern and Western cultures and local communities, what it means to self-document through motion images, and the urge to archive (Hal Foster wrote about the archive impulse.) It is another video that will ultimately end up in the vast sea of YouTube shorts but it is a way to pass down a momentary legacy.
A single-channel, nonlinear performance video and diegetic sounds. Exploring the ground of the reenactments of intimacy and the public display of these reenactments through video projections.
