Once upon a time there lived a journalist. Eager to spark interest in his boss’s newspaper, he published news of a colourful bird, more like a parrot than a chicken, less like an ostrich than a swan. No one could work out the origin of this strange bird and a web of sensational stories soon spun, but it burst the moment it came out that the witty journalist repainted an ordinary duck. From that moment on every lie journalists tell is called a ‘canard’. Our film leads directly to the nest of one such duck, in Bucharest, where the inform-propaganda spin doctor Pavel Judin, instructed by wise managerial orders and Moscow, overblows this featherless bird to the pleasure of ones and the derision of others.
Goal! is a witty satire on football and the passion that flares up around that sport. Personified animals appear as characters in this film: an affinity for Disney’s world dominates again. The screenplay was written by Norbert Neugebauer, and he was also director. Borivoj Dovniković works as the main cartoonist and animator, and his assistants are Zlatko Grgić, Turido Pauš, Vjekoslav Radilović and Branko Karabajić. Scenography was created by Oto Reisinger, and music by Milutin Vandekar.
A project from the Kićo series: The Enchanted Castle in Čačinci, later changed to The Enchanted Castle in Dudinci – Čačinci was found on a map, and Vukotić needed an imaginary name of the place. Music was composed by Vladimir Kraus-Rajterić. Nikola Kostelac appears as the assistant to the main cartoonist, and Vilim Firšt as the assistant for animation. Assistant director is Irena Vrkljan.
An early animated film by Dusan Vukotic, attempt at Disney-style animation.
