Hotel Monterey is a cheap hotel in New York reserved for the outcasts of American society. Chantal Akerman invites viewers to visit this unusual place as well as the people who live there, from the reception up to the last story.

Cliff Barlowe (Thomas Slater), an aspiring author plagued by arrogance and desire for recognition, takes on a commission to write a book about an old hall in a small British village and the family that lived there. Upon his arrival, he meets Eliza Cromwell (Anique Taylor), a young woman willing to give him all the information he needs - for a dark price.

The Hall Monitor follows an uptight, nerdy sophomore as he becomes the school’s newest hall monitor as he struggles against bullies and an uncaring principal.
