A single mother struggles to raise her children on the poor outskirts of Santo Domingo. Tired of hustling in the streets, she decides to leave it all behind and illegally immigrate to Puerto Rico on an overcrowded wooden vessel.

During New Year's Eve, the emergency room is packed with patients. The pain of a whole society in times of celebration is portrayed. Just minutes after midnight, the first victim of the stray bullets arrives. Filmed at the Medical Center of Río Piedras, Puerto Rico.
