Året är 1884 och en brittisk officerare på väg att skeppas ut till Sudan tar avsked ur armén efter att han börjar tvivla på krigets rättfärdighet. Anklagad för feghet av sin fästmö och sina vänner och förskjuten av sin far beger han sig i hemlighet till Sudan på egen hand för att rentvå sitt namn.

I slutet av 1800-talet får operafantasten Fitzcarraldo en vision om att han ska bygga ett operahus längst in i Amazonas regnskog. Alla utom hans trogna följeslagerska, bordellmamman Molly, anser att han är fullständigt galen. Men Fitzcarraldo beger sig segerviss in i djungeln ombord på en gammal rostig ångbåt. Han stöter på hinder när ett berg ligger mellan honom och hans dröm. För att nå sitt mål bestämmer han sig för att släpa hela båten över berget.

With swift actions, Youji saves as many lives as he can while the rest of the JSDF direct their efforts towards stopping the invasion. Three months after the attack, Youji has been tasked with leading a special recon team, as part of a JSDF task force, that will be sent to the world beyond the gate—now being referred to as the "Special Region." They must travel into this unknown world in order to learn more about what they are dealing with and attempt to befriend the locals in hopes of creating peaceful ties with the ruling empire.
