A youngster ends up in a rehab centre for young deaf people struggling with addiction. A budding feeling, difficult to name, that draws him to a long-term resident starts to get in the way of his therapy. The film is told entirely in sign language.

An absurd comedy inspired by George Perec’s novel “A Man Asleep” and “Bartleby, the Scrivener”, a short story by Herman Melville. Adam, a young man living with his mother, hasn’t left his apartment in years. After his mother’s death, Adam’s own life is being turned upside down. Since he’s not able to function properly without motherly concern and service, Adam decides to take his friend’s, the postman’s, advice and rent out his mother’s old room to a girl, who’ll take care of him.

When the protagonist hears an aria for the first time in his life, his distance related to the world of classical music diminishes. Moved by the art so far unknown, he decides to take up singing lessons. Opera changes not only his preferences but also lifestyle.

The film protagonist operates on the border of two worlds. During the day, he works at a well-known shop selling home furnishings, while after hours he is hired by a “cleaning company” to clean homes after the deaths of their residents.The title “A Story of Short Duration” is a reference to the diagnosis of contemporary capitalism provided by Kacper Pobłocki in his book. In the film, it acquires an additional meaning by contrasting the image of a life’s end with the beginning of one’s path related to the moving into a new flat.

Janek is a young medical intern who struggles with financial problems and doubts about his future. Although he has been working so hard, the day before his promotion he makes a risky decision that may change his life forever.

On her eighteenth birthday, Lena is trying to bond with her family. All Souls’ Day, a time for contacting the dead and getting together to return to one’s roots, puts our protagonist in a special mood and changes her outlook on her own problems. Everything that happens throughout the day will revolutionise Lena’s view of her family. It is a story of the search for one’s identity and roots, of life and death, of the co-existence of parallel worlds that come together through the power of love.
